Telangiectasias

Telangiectasias are described as a permanent dilation of small blood vessels under the skin surface, ranging from a few millimeters to a few centimeters. These blood vessels make parallel lines or star shapes that can be seen through the surface of the skin and can vary from red to violet.

These blemishes occur mainly on the face : on the sides of the nose, cheeks, on the chin for adults and also in the legs in the elderly. They are exceptional in children.

It is common to see telangiectasia coupled with rosacea. In this case, your doctor will advise you to first handle the telangiectasia and then the rosacea.

What is the treatment of telangiectasia like?

Treatment of telangiectasia is done because of aesthetic discomfort and is handled by local elimination. Electrocoagulation was used in the past but for the past twenty years, doctors have used vascular lasers. We can also get very good results with pulsed light or IPL.
The sessions last about 20 minutes. The doctor will make sure your skin is treatable based on the current conditions and will then cleanse your skin.
You will wear goggles to protect your eyes. The treatment is almost painless. You may feel little tingling.
Once the session is over, some brief redness may occur but you can hide them with a concealer the first day. You should not expose the treated area to the sun for a month!
It is important to see your doctor 6 weeks after your treatment to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment. Usually, one or two sessions will be needed.

Contraindications for the treatment of telangiectasia

They are rare but there are some cases where treatment must be postponed :

• Any dermatological lesion still evolving at the treatment area
• If pregnant or breast feeding
• Very dark skin
• Recent sun exposure
• Under the effects of a photo-sensitizing medication

The cost of laser treatment for telangiectasia

The cost of the sessions will depend on the extent of the treatment area. You should count on around 150 euros for a fifteen-minute session.
